Engebø/Førdefjorden: a legal dispute shaping the rules for mining in Norway
Engebø shows how important preparedness is. SEG continues its plan for Norway
Norway is among the countries with a long tradition of the mining industry, while also having a very rigorous permitting process and high environmental protection requirements. This has again been confirmed by the Engebø case (Førdefjorden), which has been one of the most closely watched cases in Norwegian mining in recent years.
On 10 November 2025, the District Court Sogn og Fjordane tingrett ruled on a request for a preliminary injunction that sought to temporarily halt the disposal of mining waste into the fjord. The court rejected the request.
SEG in Norway: preparing for the next step
In Norway, SEG has been consistently focused on building a portfolio of prospective areas and preparing technical documentation for the next phases. In 2026, building on the work completed to date, we plan to carry out our first drilling campaign at one of our Norwegian sites. Our goal is to proceed responsibly, in line with Norwegian regulations, with a strong emphasis on minimizing impacts.
We will continue to monitor developments in the Engebø case as an important signal for the entire sector. At the same time, our projects are designed to be robust not only geologically, but also in terms of permitting, ESG, and long-term sustainability.
