
Paamiut project is located in the area of Paamiut Greenstone Belt which has been for decades known as one of the gold-bearing south-eastern Greenland provinces. Until now most of the exploration activities were focused on the Akualiq peninsula. Our 2019 projects – focused on fresh, little-explored parts of Akualiq peninsula, Mellenbygden velley and Bay of Niqerdleg.
License Paamiut is located in the SW of Greenland on the banks of the Kvanefjord, about 20-35 km east from the town of the same name, about 270 km SE from the capital Nuuk.
Terrain morphology reflects the localization of the license on the banks of the fjord. The terrain rises very steeply from the sea level in an inaccessible slope and passes into a ondulated plateau in the summit areas with relatively favorable walking conditions.
The most promising part of the license, the plateau at The Akuliaq Peninsula (ca. 800-900 m above sea level) is only accessible from a helicopter. Significantly more favorable in terms of access seems to be the western part of the license. It is wide, well accessible valley in the continuation of the coves of Nigerdleq and Eqaluit.
Within the Paamiut province, several significant occurrences with gold mineralization have been identified over the past decades:
Akuliaq, Mellembygden, Nigerlikasik and Akulleq. These are hydrothermal alteration zones in greenstone belts. In the case of the Akuliaq peninsula, it is a strip with a width of 1 km and a length of 7 km (Kvanefjord amfibolite), which was a bit younger by TTG Ortorul (tonalite, tronghjemit, granite) and pegmatites. As a result of tectonic processes, the rocks are intensively deformed and interwoven with quartz-calcite-ankerite veins. Quartz veins, in some places lenses are usually from 20 cm to 20 m thick and can be viewed at distances up to hundreds of meters. During the exploration four types of quartz veins were identified.
Subarctic Exploration Group a.s. focuses on exploring the most promising areas of gold ore with detected anomalous contents which were in the order of tens and hundreds of ppb Au.
